    JOB TITLE: Beef Show Team Coach/Asst. Farm Manager   
    REPORTS TO: Farm Manager
    CLASSIFICATION: 
    STATUS: Full-time, exempt
    LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month continuing position

    JOB OVERVIEW: The Employee must be able to perform all types of farm and livestock operations support. Manage the selection and daily care of show cattle, plan and initiate Show Team schedules and travel logistics for the CSC Show Team. Maintain facilities and grounds, daily checking/feeding of the Bull Test and daily care of all farm animals with the Farm Manager.  Support the Farm manager in all campus wide farm activities. Assist with departmental activities including recruiting and general academic assistance in support of the Show Team. Supervise student employees, Show Team members and represent Connors State College in a professional manner at all times.

    The Head Show Team Coach’s primary duties are to:
    1) (45%) Perform administrative functions directly related to the development of students participating in Connors State College’s Show Team Program. Perform professional and administrative coaching duties directly related to Cattle Showing and livestock management during contests and practices. These duties shall be performed with a clear understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of the College.  Supervise the competition schedules, game event promotions, recruiting, fundraising, community involvement, and social activities for program students. 
    2) (55%) Teach undergraduate academic courses related to the Show Team and/or Division of Agriculture, and other accredited classes to CSC Students as required. Educate and develop student within their program activities. These teachings include academic advising/tutoring, imparting strength, fundamentals, special work-outs, practice sessions and competitive growth opportunities. Additionally, for student that are also student-workers under the coach’s tutelage; the nurturing and development expands to include all aspects of the program including but not limited to, team management, etc.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Farm Operations
    • Assist Farm Manager in the daily operation of the college farm
    • Provide daily animal care and assist with farm operations assigned
    • Perform general farm maintenance and construction as required
    • Responsible for operating Backhoe and heavy-duty farm tractors as required
    • Hay cutting and baling in season
    • Minor welding repairs to metal structures on campus
    • Responsible for mechanical and welding work if needed in support of farm operations
    • Responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and vehicles
    • Must be willing and able to perform necessary manual tasks
    • Keep facilities and equipment clean and in a manner that is presentable to the public
    • Perform the duties necessary for a successful college farm and livestock operation without time and weekend constraints

    Beef Show Team Coach
    • Coach the competitive CSC Beef Show Team and manage team event schedule
    • Conduct weekly assessments and manage show string
    • Provide reports and information as requested
    • Conduct daily show cattle assessment and monthly sale and breeding reports 
    • Assist with the Bull Test as necessary
    • Manage team event schedule, assist with divisional events, clubs and teams
    • Travel to various high schools, livestock shows and other sites for recruitment 
    • Develop promotional materials including but not limited to flyers and pamphlets
    •  Secure funds for entry fees, team meals, lodging, etc. 
    • Coordinate and conduct recruitment activities for the Show Team
    • Maintain facilities at the college farm and at the South Ranch
    • Maintain equipment, supplies and vehicles related to the farm and Show Team
    • Coordinate and implement competitive team travel, and practice/work/chore schedules
    • Fundraise for team and/or division benefit; maintain farm and livestock records including breeding, registration, records, etc. 
    • Assist the farm A.I. program and herd health management schedules
    • Assist in livestock selection purchases and culls to maintain premium quality herds

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge of livestock operations
    • Ability to handle farm/livestock equipment
    • Ability to work well with a diverse population
    • Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible   
    • Ability to work well with a diverse population
    • Computer proficiency, including the use of Microsoft Office

    EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
    • Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s preferred   
    • Commercial Driver’s License preferred
    • Experience with Purebred and Commercial herds preferred
    • Experience with farm equipment preferred (i.e. tractor, implements, etc.)

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must be able to sit, bend, stoop, and to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (i.e. high/low temperatures)
